Official EPA rating has been announced for the 2011 Ford Mustang GT, making it one of the most efficient cars of its class. In fact the new 2011 Mustang is much more efficient than the old models. A while ago the 305 hp V6 model was tested and returned 31 mpg, and now the Mustang 5.0 with its powerful 412 hp V8, which managed 17 mpg city and 26 highway.
That is for the six-speed manual transmission, with the six-speed automatic it’ll do 18 mpg city and 25 highway. To achieve these numbers, Ford’s new V8 is equipped with high-tech features such as Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT), double-overhead-camshaft (DOHC) and an all-aluminum construction for the sake light weight. Both auto and manual gearboxes are also highly optimized for best compromise between performance and economy.
“The 2011 Mustang continues to exceed expectations in every category, and these fuel economy numbers are another chapter in an incredible story,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s group vice president, Global Product Development. “To offer this kind of horsepower and class-leading fuel economy in a comfortable, beautiful, tech-savvy and affordable package — it’s really unprecedented.”
